"SpokenThai" is a Thai language learning software package that includes four main components:

1). A word to word phonetic dictionary of over 20,000 words with Thai script.
2). High quality 18,000 Audio files of useful sentences/words arranged by 125 subject categories.
3). Basic Thai learning e-book with 100 lessons and over 1,200 sentences using the Text Colors system.
4). Thai to English phonetic dictionary with 10,000 words and a fast search engine.
The Basic Thai learning e-book includes 22 chapters of learning Thai script for advanced students.

More details:

With a total of over 24,000 useful words and phrases most frequently used by a foreigner in Thailand, this is the best and biggest learning tool of its kind. This tool is designed to help English speakers, who can not read the Thai script, in learning to speak the Thai language and communicate with Thai people. It was written and designed by a foreigner with his own foreign perspective.

There are 18,000 high quality audio files divided into 125 subject categories, spoken by a native Thai woman, in the way she speaks in everyday life. When the user clicks once on any English word or sentence, it will be automatically translated into the Thai language and shown in English phonetic pronunciation using English characters. In the audio categories the audio file, associated with the sentence or word selected, will be played too. There is a re-play option and very useful "Auto-Play" feature.

A Text-To-Speech engine (TTS), if installed, will allow you to hear the English too. Actually you can sit comfortably and let "SpokenThai" speak to you all sentences in sequence, in English and in Thai.

The dictionary also includes an expanded e-book with 100 lessons, 75 of which in Basic Thai grammar, and dozens of important key words, with example sentences, which are essential for understanding the structure of the spoken Thai language. With over 1200 useful sentences and their translations (using the color method of word to word translation which makes learning easy and quick) this book will guide you in understanding the rules of building more complex sentences as well. It will also show you some special words which have no defined translation to English and how to use them, and how to use other important words

Upgrade - Important notice !

Users of version 2.2 only:
No need to download audio files. Move all files from 'Audio' folder to the new 'Audio' folder.

All other users:

Version 2.2 was completely re-designed. Due to major changes made, previous versions are not compatible with new audio files and registered users of previous versions who want to upgrade, should install the new version as well as downloading the new audio files. There is no need to get a new code for users of version 1.9 up (willl be automatically registered). Alll other versions users should request a new code.

Before you upgrade, notice that the total space you will need to download all audio files is about 432 MB.
It is strongly suggested first to download version 2.3 and all audio files and check that all works fine BEFORE
you remove any old version.

CD containing any previous version will not work properly with new version 2.3. Please take this into consideration if you decide to upgrade.

There is no need to uninstall old versions but "Start" menu links will open only last version installed.
Uninstalling any previous version will not remove the old "Audio" folder and its files. Since old files are not compatible with this new version you can delete the whole "Audio" folder of any previous version after you make sure you have all new audio files and the new version works fine.

Download Audio Files Using download Utility

The program is designed to automatically download a any missing category file when selected (once only). Alternative way is to use our download utility which you can download from here:

Download Audio Files Manually

Since this dictionary is very big the main download zip includes only the setup file of the basic dictionary and one audio category "Substance-Materials". From version 1.8 a direct download of audio categories was implemented. When you select an audio category, if the file is not found in "Audio" folder, then the program will try to download the specific category and install it to the "Audio" folder. When installation is completed, the audio category will be automatically displayed. If the download doesn't work, try to open your browser first or use manual download from this page:

Each audio category is independent and you do not have to download all categories if you do not want to. If you want to save space on your Hard Drive you can burn all audio categories to a CD and keep in "Audio" folder only the categories you like to use in a specific time. The audio files for download are in a "mbd" format, arranged by categories. There are 125 categories (see detailed list below).

Very important:
Do not try to run or open any audio category file (.MBD). These files are used by the program when found in the Audio folder.

The "Substance-Materials" audio category is already included with the program installation..

Audio Categories Downloads

Important:

Right-Click on a category link and "Save as" to a temporary folder, then move all files to the "Audio" sub-folder in the main program folder, located by default in: C:\Program Files\SpokenThai_2.3 or save directly to the "Audio" sub-folder. Please notice that you don't have to download all files for the program to work
